THE LIGHTS OF BROADWAY: COMING SOON TO LINCOLN HEIGHTS

The Lights of Broadway: Coming Soon to Lincoln Heights

Let's see if I can "break a story" tonight. The trees of North Broadway will soon be illuminated by pretty lights...and solar powered too! Funded by the Neighborhood Matching Fund and private donations, the project is called "Broadway Lights in Lincoln Heights"

The lights will be installed from 1700 to 3400 North Broadway in Lincoln Heights and "will incorporate solar decorative lights on trees landscaping the North Broadway Corridor".

The cost? Only $7,192 (with $3,482 coming from the City), matched by $3,710 from the community. The creator of the vision is Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Councilmember Erika Gallo.

She appealed to the LH Neighborhood Council for additional funding to extend the lights all the way to the end of the Broadway Corridor (for the cost of a mere $3,000). The proposal was not approved by the council. Boo hiss!

According to their website, "the Community Beautification Grant was created in 1998 in the City of Los Angeles under the name Neighborhood Matching Fund as a way for community members to shape their neighborhoods. In partnership with hundreds of neighborhood groups..."
